Rawley is definitely becoming a little toddler. He gets into everything. He finally discovered the kitchen cabinets so after 13 months we finally put baby locks on all of them. It's hard for mom and dad to get used to. Needless to say, Rawley gets extremely upset when he goes to open them and can't. He has patience like his daddy, almost non-existent. All the doors throughout the house are usually shut all the time because he like to go venture around and destroy things and get into trouble. For now, we just keep his bedroom open so he can play in there while he is also playing in his play room right next to it. He makes plenty of messes in there ;0)
He isn't crawling yet, but he seems pretty close to it. He cruises all over the place and will walk everywhere very quickly while using his walkers, but he is quite the stubborn one. He has taken a few steps solo, but he does not seem to want to walk on his own yet. He is still very comfortable crawling all over the place and cruising the furniture. Rawley will stand on his own frequently, but just hasn't taken off. He does what we call the gorilla walk where he will crawl on all fours. He is very fast and I think he realizes that he can get to places much quicker this way.
We are still weaning Rawley off of bottles at this point. He is completely off of formula and now drinking whole milk while only having a bottle of milk for breakfast and a bottle of milk before bed. It didn't seem to be a problem making the switch, but he hates milk in his sippy cup. He will get water in a sippy for lunch and throughout the day since he is often a thirsty boy. He will drink his water in a sippy, but will throw his cup to the side if there is milk in it. This is going to be quite a problem when we drop his morning bottle for a sippy of milk on Monday. It makes me a bit nervous because his milk consumption has dropped down to about 12-14oz a day, but he does eat cheese like it's going out of style. He doesn't like yogurt and I haven't tried cottage cheese yet so I should introduce that soon to see if that can be another calcium option. He eats three meals a day along with two snacks. Rawley still throws his food all over the floor along with his sippy and
utensils. I can't wait for the day where he can successfully use these
items so I'm not constantly picking up extremem messes up off the
floor. Right now his favorite foods are peas, cheese, applesauce, animal crackers, graham crackers, fish crackers (see a theme here??) and raisins. Other than that, he has started to get quite picky. He is getting sick of chicken, peaches and mangos, not really a fan of strawberries that much right now either. I'm really struggling with food ideas right now for him, anyone have any suggestions?? It seems in the past couple of weeks his appetite has gone down a bit, but I think he is just distracted by everything new going on around him and he might be either sick or growing some more teeth. He still has only six teeth, but I'm thinking he might be brewing some molars. It's been a rough few days actually.
Rawley isn't much of a talker yet, but he still says mamma, dad (more often then mamma), papa, baby (he says this a lot) and babbles all day long. His babbling is in longer sentences than it used to be so you can tell he is trying to say something, but just can't quite say the words. His face gets very animated, points and throws his arms in the air when he babbles so it's pretty funny. He still has no attention span when we read books to him unless it's at bed time and very tired or unless you are reading the Yo Gabba! Gabba! Spring Showers to him, that's still his favorite and we read that all.the.time.
We have dropped the second nap now and are only taking one nap a day. It's been quite a hard adjustment for him, but he is getting used to it now. He will wake up for the day anywhere between 6-7am, eat lunch around 11am and then will take his nap around 11:30am. He can sleep anywhere from 2-3 hours at this point which makes it nice to finally be able to get some stuff done in the day. One nap makes it much harder to get anything done now. I don't know how this mamma is going to do it with two littles running around here.
It's been so fun seeing Rawley get older and it seems that right after his first birthday he seemed no longer a baby. He seems older, more curious and independent just over night. Sometimes it's hard letting go of a little baby, but this mamma needs to realize that he needs to start forming his own little self and let him get dirty, cause shenanigans and get into stuff. He is a boy after all and it's going to get a lot more crazy as times goes on.
We love you so much little man and watching you grow every day is the best part of the day. We have the most fun with you and we love you so much!
