rawley is 16 months.

8.23.2012

This 16 months post is quite late, yes I know {he will be 17 months in less than 2 weeks}...awesome.  But it's been well over 113 degrees for the past couple weeks and taking a 16 month old toddler out who hates the heat plus a pregnant mamma who also hates the heat equals an awful photo session for both.  We had to make this session quick this time.  He obviously wanted nothing to do with it.  I'm looking forward to some cool weather relief here soon!

Rawley is starting to take on his own personality at this point and it's really shining.  He is getting more funny everyday.  As funny as he has become, he really has started to learn how to test his limits.  He is trying so hard to express himself that he gets so frustrated at the drop of the hat.  Choking himself, throwing his food on the floor during every meal time {this can be a whole post within itself actually} and shoving his cup to the side or off his tray if he doesn't want it are just some of the few new things he does to express his frustration.  He will try to dig in and throw his toys in the trash can and when he gets really upset, start hitting his head with his hands because he isn't getting what he wants because we aren't understanding him yet.

With all the crazy toddler antics he has developed, he has started to do some pretty cute things too.  He is running all over the house now, like literally running.  It makes this mamma nervous sometimes, but seeing his pigeon toed feed and bowlegged legs running around with his hands to his sides or flailing around above him just puts a smile on my face.  He is so proud.  Rawley is now climbing on everything and has a new quirk of wanting to make sure all chairs are pushed in and back to where they are supposed to be after meal times.  Maybe he is going to do develop some of my OCD tendencies???  Yikes. ;0)

Rawley has started adding some new words to his vocabulary which include beep, he will answer with yes when you ask him a question, he recognizes when something is hot and will say hot, has said baaa for sheep {but he has only said this once when reading with Gramma and hasn't said it since}, will say pee pee when you are in or going to the bathroom, and says ice ALL THE TIME!  This kid has developed an obsession with ice.  You can't even open the freezer without him yelling "ice, ice, ice, ice".  He will run from across the house to the kitchen for ice when he hears the freezer door open.  Once you give him a piece of ice though, he will just throw it on the floor.

He recognizes everything you ask him to either get or point to.  For instance, you can ask where his hammer is and he will search for it everywhere and then grab it.  You can ask him what things are in his books and he will point to them correctly.  It's good to know he can spot these things since he isn't saying them yet.  Sometimes I wonder if he is on track for speaking, but I need to realize it will happen at his own pace.  Speaking of reading books, he has NO patience for reading still.  You can maybe read 2 or 3 pages and he is itching to get off your lap and either pick out a new book or go turn on his humidifier and play in the mist.  It's weird because he will grab a book and then run and bring it to you, back up to plop in your lap, put his little hand on your arm and sit contently while you read him his story and then his is off after a few sentences!  He has no patience yet.  I hope he grows out of it soon because I love having reading time with him and hope that he will love it too.  I get excited at the thought of going to the library and have him pick out a few books a week so we can bring them home to read.

Rawley is crazy about balloons right now too.  CRAZY!  Anytime we walk into the grocery store and he sees the floral display he goes nuts.  He will just point and make high pitch noises like he is wanting the balloon until it's out of site.  Last time the three of us went to the grocery store Ryan couldn't resist and we ended up wondering through the whole store with a spider man balloon and ended up taking it home.  His new thing is always pointing to Gpa and Babushka's picture that is sitting on our buffet.  He always runs to it pointing and says "pa"...all the time.  I'm not even kidding.  It's to the point now where I bribe him if he isn't listening or needs to go to bed, I will say "Gpa wants you to go to sleep" or "Gpa wants you to listen to mamma when she says not to throw your food on the floor".  I know he doesn't grasp that yet, but it doesn't hurt to try. ;0)  He is going to be confused with the whole Grandpa issue because he has three of them 1. 'Gpa' who lives in Kansas City, 2. 'Pa' that lives in Arizona and 3. 'Papa' who lives in Florida.  Anytime he says "papa" I will will say that he lives in Florida or "pa" I will say he lives in Arizona.  He hasn't grasped how to say Gpa yet though so I guess 'pa' will do for now until he actually says 'Gpa'.

Rawley has been trying to grow his molar in for quite some time now.  At his 15 month appointment it was swollen at the gums and it just hasn't popped yet.  But you can tell it's bothering him a lot because he has been extra fussy, a clear runny nose that has lasted for days and he spiked a low-grade fever recently too.  He will wake up in the middle of the night just crying sometimes so I know he is in pain.  Poor little guy.  He is still wearing 12-18 month shirts although the 12 month shirts are starting to get short on him {it also depends on the brand too}.  Size 4 diapers are still fitting well, and size 4 shoes are working too.  His 12 month shorts are still falling off of him.  I think he is dropping some weight recently because he has no appetite these days and I'm thinking it has to do with the molars coming in.  Well, at least that is what I'm blaming it on.

16 months has brought on a lot of new experiences and challenges in this house, but it's been so fun.  We can't wait to see how much more he changes in the next month!  Mamma loves you Rawley!
