rawley's first day of {pre} pre-k...the preschool for tow year olds

today we started rawley in a {pre} pre-k program at our nearby church.  it's a semi-structured environment with some free play, craft time, etc.  we mainly enrolled rawley into this program to give him socialization since he has always been with just me since day one and also to help pick up his speech since it really has not progressed at all.  the last couple of days we have been pumping him up for school and took a small tour of class and he seemed pretty excited to go.  i was excited, ryan was excited and we were going to do this!

seems great, right?

wrong.

i dropped rawley off and it was a pretty quick drop off as his teach said it's best to basically drop him off and just leave.  i gave rawley a kiss, gave him a train to play with and booked it out of there.  ugh, i hate doing that but that is what the teach wants so i need to learn to oblige.  i arrived about 10 minutes before i was able to pick him up and was waiting outside with all the other parents.  apparently, rawley saw me through the window and freaked the F out!  once we were able to go inside i turn the corner to find rawley by himself in the corner by the window crying in absolute hysterics while all the other kids and his teacher were sitting in a circle on the other side of the room.  it was so sad and it took all i had to hold back my tears for him.  his teacher didn't really pull me aside to let me know in detail how his day went other than "he had an extremely rough day".  huh.  really??  she also said that he hated the paint on his hands since they did finger painting today and would throw all the toys out of the bins and would throw them everywhere.

ugh.

i hate hearing this and it makes me so sad that he had a horrible first day, but it's just that...his first day.  i know there will be an adjustment period, but i really hope things get better because i don't think i will be able to handle picking him up in that state all the time.  i'm just so sad for him.  the principal was very understanding and sympathetic and indicated if we feel we need to drop it down for two days a week, we can do that.  so i will be giving it another month and if things haven't improved, we will try two days and then if it doesn't get better from there we have no choice but to pull him out of there and try again next year.

he may be too young still, who knows.  i just want rawley to be happy.  hopefully friday will be a little better :)
